doing a clean install on my dell latitude D600, gets to 18% of copying files and then Error Code 80070241 pops-up. Need help.

Vista Beta 2 x86 Error Code 80070241
Try installing from Windows instead - also try copying the contents of the DVD to a folder on the Desktop then running the setup from there.
If that fails, use Daemon Tools (www.daemon-tools.cc) to mount the image virtually and install from there.

I got this also once, reattempted setup and it copied successfully. If you are installing from DVD, try burning the ISO again at a low speed. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

I recieved this message before. It wasnt the DVDs fault at all though. It turned out that If you have a Motherboard with SATA + PATA drives, and you have Native Mode selected in the BIOS (Not the compatibility mode) your install will fail. How come, I couldnt tell you. This is the case atleast for me with build 5308. "MicroEndeavors" wrote in message

Has anyone actually gotten this thing installed? If so how avout posting a step by step on how you did it? The rest of us could learn from it.

You guys are not going to believe this. I finally got Vista to install, heres what happened and how I did it:
1. I pasted the download link into FIREFOX of all things. that is the only way I could get a good download.
2. Burned the ISO to DVD using Roxio DVD builder @ 2X speed.
3. Copied all the install files to the hard drive in a folder labeled "Vista Install" and ran the installation from there. It took 2 1/2 HOURS to install.
When Vista started for the first time, all I got was a black screen, working mouse, and the build number noted in the lower right corner. NO graphics at all and nothing works. I had to roll back the installation and am now back to XP.
Talk about disapointment! Any thoughts? My machine is a 1.4 Gig celeron with a GIG of RAM

It works my way....
The only way that worked for me was downloading a new x86 version (I tried to copy the files from the DVD but still had the same problem), Mount the image using Alcohol 120%, and copy the files to a folder called Windows Vista. Run setup from that Folder. You can still choose between upgrade (only works for Windows XP with SP 2) or Clean install; It takes some time to install (around hour and a half) Now I can play with it... finally
I wish that works for somebody else.
